Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) beef flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, minced
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
- Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
Instructions For Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry
Beef Preparation:
- Put beef slices in a bowl.
- Put 1 tbsp of each soy sauce and cornstarch in it.
- Mix it all up and wait for 10 minutes.
Sauce Making:
- Grab a smaller bowl.
- Blend together 1 tbsp soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and beef broth (or water).
- Leave it.
Beef Cooking: Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil on high heat in a large pan or wok. Toss in beef. Stir-fry until it’s brown but not fully cooked, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef and set it aside.
Broccoli Cooking: Heat the last 1 tbsp of oil using the same pan. Add garlic and ginger to the pan; stir-fry until you smell it, about 30 seconds. Add broccoli. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes. Pour a bit of water in and cover the pan. Let the broccoli steam for 2-3 minutes. It should be tender but still crunchy.
Joining the Meal:
- Add cooked beef back to the broccoli pan.
- Pour sauce over beef and broccoli.
- Stir everything to spread the sauce.
- Cook for 1-2 more minutes till sauce sticks to everything.
For more taste, you can add some sesame oil.
